How Can I Hook A Home Theater System To A Tv Without An Audio Out But Has Speaker Jacks?
Here is my problem, I bought a home theater from wal-mart and I think I may have purchased the wrong one. (I can't return it, it has been too long) My tv has speakers that are external and are connected to something like this: http://www.goldmine-elec-products.com/images/G13930B.jpg
This tv has no audio out aside from cables like that, here is where it is messed up. The home theater has these as the input from the tv: (Note: the one on the bottom, the Red and white input)

My equipment:
~42" Plasma Magnivox TV
~RCA Home theater (RT2770)
Can anyone tell me how to hook this up, I have tried my local radio shack and got a cable that I rigged to fit both ends but nothing comes through. Are audio wires different then any old wire?

The output from your TV is an amplified, speaker level output. Under no circumstances should you try to hook it up to the line level inputs on your receiver. Your problem is getting audio into your sound system. Just connect the audio from all of your sources directly to the surround sound system. You can connect the video from these sources to different inputs on the TV or you can use your receiver as a video switcher feeding into one of the inputs on the TV. If one of your sources happens to be analog cable just use a stereo VCR as the tuner for the TV when you want to hear surround sound. Hook up the VCR's audio output's directly to the sound system.

If your TV does not have line level outputs it is still not too difficult to do what you want to do. However, there are possible alternatives that might be simpler. Are you using a cable box to feed the signal to your tv? If so, the cable box may have line level audio outputs you can use to feed your home theater system. Once you hook that up, all you need to do is turn the volume all the way down on your tv set. Also, does your TV set have a digital output for the audio? My panasonic has an optical (toslink) output that I used to hook up to my system.
However, if you aren’t using a cable box or you don’t have a digital audio output, then you will have to use the circuit on this page …

You can cut off an end of an RCA jack and then strip the wires to fit the speaker outputs on the tv. They will produce sound, but you have to be careful of the volume setting on the tv. Because they are "line-level" every increment on the tv;s volume setting will substantially increase volume through the stereo. Also, what kind of plasma tv doesn’t have audio out. I wish people would stop shopping for electronics at WAL MART. SERIOUSLY

Is there not a device available that could drop the speaker level output and convert it to the line input for the receiver?
I have seen an LCD like this before – it took me a while to figure out that it did not have audio out.
