Home Made Speakers Using Dayton Sound Exciters
A demonstration of how a set of Dayton Sound exciters can be used to create a set of Hi-Fi loud speakers. These were created using the following materials: One pair of Dayton Sound Exciters ( Parts Express), Two pieces of aluminum .030"thk. x 12"w x 12"h (hobby shop), Paper foam paper board 12" x12" x 1/4thk. (craft shop), 500ohm. speaker of unknown manufacturer for the very high frequency (electronic surplus), Super glue used to adhere .500 ohm. speaker to front and also to adhere the tripod mounts. The amplifier is a 35wpc. KT88 push pull, CD is Kenwood 5 disc, Subwoofer is a Radio Shack 12" passive. The resulting sound is better than some very expensive bookshelf speakers that I have heard. Quite simply IMPRESSIVE !!!

500-700…..Hmmmm…. I paid 400 for my tube amp? I think it is important to buy what you like. It is as simple as that. I like tubes, you like transistors….So??? Man, relax before you have a stroke or something.
You really know …
You really know your stuff. Hopefully one day I can get to your level of expertise? Very intelligently spoken as well….Are you mad or something??? Sorry my tutorial upsets you so badly?
Dumbass, speakers …
Dumbass, speakers are the weakest link in practically all set ups. Even great speakers will have noise+THD at above 5%. Tube amp is a waste of money. You can get a great solid state amp for about 500-700USD. Tube amps are for idiots, who care more about what their looks like not what it sounds like.

I will only use a tube amp for recording music, not presenting it.

I completely …
I completely believe it. I have a few pairs of exciters, and when I first got them I stuck a pair to the bottom of 2 cardboard boxes and laid the boxes on their sides and I was COMPLETELY amazed! Obviously it wasn’t amazing sound quality, but for what it is…
And will all the snobby purists stop whining about the Tube Amp? Is it against the law to experiment with speakers using a tube amp? I personally prefer and amp with less distortion, anyways.
Wait. Why don’t …
Wait. Why don’t you talk over the music? Could it be because for the video you dubbed in music? I don’t want to call BS on you because I believe what you’ve done is possible but it sounds almost too good to be coming from a hand-held video camera. Again, kudos for your work but the skeptic in me is still not 100% convinced…

the point is, the speakers are the weakest link in this set up. solid state or tube wouldn’t really make difference in this case.

Great work. I …
Great work. I wanted to try a set of these for quite awhile. I’m an engineer for 2 Cleveland TV Stations and have always wanted to try these on our lobby glass walls. And currently I am doing an install in a 100yo. mansion and need a speaker solution for solid brick walls with plaster and lath faces that only leave about 2″ of depth. The owner doesn’t want to see speakers if possible. I could mount these to a 12″sq. pc. of drywall and patch it into the walls- totally hidden. Maybe add a tweeter
Your kidding me …
Your kidding me right. You r using a tube amp like that to power those speakers. Anyways good job. They sounded pretty good in the video.

I’m sure there is not much difference between the Bose & Sound exciters because they both sound like wet poop splatter.

I used a couple of pairs of these and people really are impressed about the sound. I was worried they might blow but they can take a lot of power. I put some in the attic on the drywall above my shower and it rocks. I like the addition of a tweeter will need to try that.
