What Audio Signals Are Output By The Center Channel Speaker In A Home Theater System?

The reason I'm asking, is that I'm not sure if mine is working. Theres some static, but no real audio. I'm sure it's wired correctly. Will it only pass a certain frequency band at certain times, like other surround sound speakers or a sub? Is that why I'm not hearing anything when I check?

IF you are running digital output - either digital coax or toslink (optical) AND are set up for surround sound (at least 5.1) then you should be hearing dialog from the center channel.

Mostly the dialogue from a movie will come from the center channel. this will also contain other parts of a movie, but mostly dialogue.
