Would Most Car Speakers Work With A Home Audio Setup? Just Curious For Testing Purposes….?
I realize that car speakers are made for different purposes than a surround speaker for a home theater (for example), but it's safe to say I could hook up a car speaker like a 6.5" or 6x9 for testing purposes, right? Anything I should be concerned about so I dont blow the speaker?
Most home speakers are rated @ 8 ohms, to avoid damaginf the component connect both speakers in series to raise the impedance to 8 ohms.

Yes, for sure. Keep the volume reasonable. The impedance in ohms (4 or 8 ohms for example) is the specification that matters, but the impedances should be the same in general and not hurt anything if they differ somewhat because your not going to put more than a few watts into them. If you were talking 50 watts of actual power into the speakers, that’s a different story. But at normal volume levels, your only putting 5 watts at most into the speakers.

Most car speakers are rated at 4 ohms, where as most home stereos are 8ohms. I’d say just for testing to see if the speaker works, you’d be ok. However, do not turn it up loud or run it for an extended amount of time. You will be putting an additional load on your amp it wasn’t designed to handle.
another way to look at it – say your amp puts out 8 gallons of water, but your speaker can only handle 4 gallons. Unlike a bucket, the extra water (ohms) won’t just flow over, but it will return to your amp.
if the scenario is reversed – 8ohm speakers & 4ohm home amp, you’ll be fine, it just won’t play as loud as a 4ohm speaker & 4ohm home amp setup.
