Home Audio Speaker Trouble!?

I just got a used Samsung HT-AS720S receiver through cowboom.com. I hook up a speaker to the Front Right terminal and it sounds fine. I hook up another speaker to the Front Left terminal and it sounds obnoxiously loud and distorted, and cuts off the Front Right speaker. I tested both speakers on the Front Right and both sound fine while alone. I tested both speakers on the Front Left terminal and they are both obnoxiously loud and distorted. Did I get a bad used receiver with a bad Front Left terminal, or am I just doing something wrong?

Please help! Thanks!

There is a problem with the receiver, because you've checked both speakers on the right channel and they sound OK. I assume you set the balance control to the middle to do the testing, but can you adjust it toward the right channel and get the volume to decrease in the left channel enough so it sounds OK? Or, if the two channels have separate volume controls, can you turn the left one down enough? If not, you'll have to take the receiver to a repair shop to get the left channel output fixed.
