Which Home Audio Speaker System Should I Get?
Ok - i have just ordered a new plasma tv and want to upgrade the audio with a new speaker system as it only has weak internal speakers.
link showing spec of new plasma - http://www.dabs.com/productview.aspx?QuickLinx=52WR#
i have sky digital - not HD yet and a PS3, both of which are hooked up via scart leads to my old tv.
New TV has HDMI input which will work nicely with the PS3.
But what can i do with the audio - will i be able to just plug a set of stereo speakers into this tv or would a 5.1 system work?
what systems would you recommend?
hands down................bose home entertainment system

Bose is nice, but you pay for the name and for the styling of it. Theres better value in getting a good standard AV receiver and a set of 5.1 or 7.1 speakers.
Brands like Yamaha and Onkyo are good for receivers and Polk is very good in speakers. I cannot offer you suggestions as to where to buy them, as I don’t know the UK market.
In general, TVs don’t have internal amplifiers to power a set of external speakers. Ergo, the requirement for an AV receiver.

You DONT want a stereo – these are 5.1 systems.
You DO want to upgrade to HD service. Standard def looks horrible on a modern high def display.
You DONT want Bose. Try and find a stereo/home theater magazine with a review first. (You wont – Bose sues any magazine that does a review)
You want one of the Onkyo 505/605/705 receivers and whatever 5.1 speaker system you listen to and like with a favorite CD.
Since I dont know the stores around you – I cannot suggest any. But only listen to speakers from companies that only make speakers. Skip Phillips/Sony/Yamaha speakers. They are just not very good.
